Subject: ICD Embakasi Congestion and Urgent Arrangement

your best arrangement, we would like to update you the present depot situation. We are

The depot at ICD Embakasi is seriously congested and KPA (Kenya Port Authority) & KRA
(Kenya Revenue Authority) have taken directive measures to evacuate empty containers for
facilitating the railage back to Mombasa per below. With short notice, the depot stopped
accepting empty gate-in from 27th Sept to 1st Oct. Consignees were notified of this special
KPA has issued notice to all importers whose cargoes remain at ICD Embakasi for
more than 21 days, to clear them without storage within 14 days.
After this, KPA will move all those long stay laden units to Makongeni Custom
bonded area to create space for the incoming cargoes.
After this exercise, no empties will be received at ICD Embakasi. All empties will be
taken to Nairobi Freight Terminal at Syokimau. This will further decongest the ICD
The movement ex Mombasa to ICD Embakasi is also having issues as ICD Embakasi is
congested. The trains which were with cargo still to be discharged at ICD Embakasi due to
space constraints which is affecting loading operation at Mombasa. All carriers are being
impacted and we now have containers which are lying at Mombasa without being railed for
more than 14 days.
