One of the core values of Emirates Shipping Line in being a good corporate citizen is to provide service to the local community.  The company is therefore delighted to announce its participation in Art Container Project, a unique international project showcasing Hong Kong’s home-grown arts and culture to different parts of the world.

Emirates Shipping Line is the official carrier for the Project organized by Merely Independent Artists (MIA) to transport 37 containers featuring original works of art by 38 of Hong Kong’s top local artists, on the Line’s scheduled services over the next 3 years.  This Project is carried out in collaboration with Asia Container Leasing (ACL). The art containers will embark on individual journeys to different ports within the Line’s network, where events and cultural exchange exhibitions will be launched to enrich the Project anchoring on the theme and sharing Hong Kong art.

Each container can be tracked upon their departure online through Emirates website by clicking the icon   to view full report on the journey of respective containers.  The tracking report is also available on the project’s official website www.artcontainer.hk. The art containers will eventually return to Hong Kong for exhibition 3 years later, each with their own unique story of their footprint archived as part of their journey and the city’s art development.

“We are happy to be involved in this meaningful event. To us, both art and shipping share the nature of connection across continents without boundaries, and can play an essential part in bridging relationships between various communities on the planet,” Chairman and CEO of Emirates Shipping Line Vikas Mohammed Khan said, ”We look forward to starting this beautiful journey and witnessing the success of this project.”

Prior to departure the art containers, an inaugural ceremony was held on 16 May 2008 at the West Kowloon Cultural District to commemorate the kick-off of the journey
