Dear Valued Customers,
Subject: Tanzania Customs Declaration – “TO ORDER” Bill of Lading
We thank you for shipping with Emirates Shipping Line to East Africa. As reported by our Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania (TZDAR) office, some customers of ESL and other shipping lines are encountering customs clearance problem for Bill of Lading that is issued TO ORDER and TO ORDER OF BANK.
Our Dar Es Salaam office is putting all efforts in place to pursue local authorities for clear regulation and an official circular of any change of policies, however we have no formal feedback at this stage.
In order to avoid customs penalties and delay prior to the circulation of the official regulation, we highly recommend your good company to avoid TO ORDER and TO ORDER OF BANK Bill of Lading to Tanzania, including local, in transit and Through BL via Dar Es Salaam. Please ensure actual consignee is stipulated on the Bill of Lading Consignee field.
In case TO ORDER and TO ORDER OF BANK Bill of Lading is indeed necessary for L/C and trading purpose, please ensure to surrender full set Bill of Lading for AMENDMENT to Direct Consignment (ACTUAL CONSIGNEE ON B/L CONSIGNEE FIELD) with a minimum of 5 days before ETA Tanzania port. Failure to do so will result in customs penalties and delay at POD will be on customers’ account.
We thank you for your kind understanding and continuous support to our company. Our local offices will continue to keep close coordination with customers for any necessary arrangement. In addition, we will liaise with local authorities for any new updates and share accordingly.
