Assistant Manager, Container Fleet – Shenzhen, China

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct physical inspections of containers at various depots and repair facilities to assess damage, structural integrity and overall condition.
  2. Review and validate repair estimates submitted by vendors, ensuring alignment with ESL’s repair standards and cost benchmarks.
  3. Collaborate closely with container procurement and operations teams to monitor and evaluate the performance of container repair vendors.
  4. Provide independent judgment on cost reasonableness and recommend cost optimization strategies where applicable.
  5. Document inspection findings and maintain accurate records of container condition reports, repair decisions and cost approvals to safeguard ESL’s liability.
  6. Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and company standards in all inspection and M&R-related activities.
  7. Identify trends, recurring issues, or quality concerns and escalate to management for vendor performance reviews or contract adjustments in a timely manner.
  8. Identify the liable party to the happening of container damage and initiate third-party claim (TPC) on the repair costs incurred, ensuring full loss recovery.
  9. Support the deployment of newly built containers by conducting quality inspections before acceptance and integration into the fleet.

Requirements:

Qualification(s) :

  1. Tertiary education.
  2. IICL certified.

Working Experience:

  1. Five (5) years of relevant experience working; qualified candidates with lesser experience will be considered as a Senior Executive.
  2. Proven experience in container management, managing contractors within the shipping industry.
  3. Experience with managing depots.
  4. Strong knowledge of container inspection, best practices, and industry regulations.
  5. Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, preferably experience with our internal system or similar systems.
