Senior Executive, Capacity – Singapore

ESL Group seeks an experienced professional to join our organization for Capacity management. This role is at the heart of our business, working across a variety of stakeholders to execute our strategy. It seeks to synthesize supply and demand in our key markets and to take positions that maximize profitability for ESL. In addition, this role plays a key part in optimizing our network while ensuring we deliver a best-in-class experience for our customers. The clear purpose of this role is to find creative solutions that can deliver a competitive advantage for ESL.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring bookings and optimizing space by adjusting allocation between load and discharge ports to improve utilization and trade performance.
  • Adjusting cargo loading, including rolling and re-routing, through close collaboration with area stakeholders.
  • Liaising with the product analyst, trade, and marketing team to steer cargo to achieve maximum revenue on available capacity.
  • Seeking high utilization across all services through forecast management and downfall analysis.
  • Planning for seasonality changes with stowage planners and commercial teams.
  • Supporting the execution of the empty flow plan in collaboration with the equipment team.
  • Reducing waste, such as re-nominations and longstanding at ports, through timely planning and execution.
  • Working closely with Marine Operations to ensure schedule reliability and handle contingencies like port omissions, swaps, schedule delays, and cargo overflows.
  • Contributing ideas to improve processes within the team and across departments.
  • Analyzing service performance and representing capacity with inputs for service improvement.
  • Establishing good working relationships with partners and managing the VSA/SWAP/SCA deals.
  • Preparing related reports.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • 2 – 3 years’ experience in the shipping industry ideally having been in roles in capacity/cargo flow, commercial and/or trade.
  • A strong collaborator who can drive information sharing and a change mindset across our own agencies and partners.
  • Enjoys problem solving and the unpredictable challenges in shipping – ranging from COVID related disruptions or Red Sea crises.
  • Data savvy – loves to work with numbers and can use them to tell a story; experience with databases, data visualization tools, programming or similar are a plus!
