Assistant Manager, Cargo Flow – Dubai, United Arab Emirates

The Cargo Flow Assistant Manager is responsible for executing and monitoring the efficient flow of cargo across Emirates Shipping Line’s global network. This role supports optimal vessel space utilization, schedule adherence, and cargo planning accuracy. The Cargo Flow Assistant Manager collaborates with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth cargo movement from booking through to final allocation, while aligning with trade priorities and service commitments.

Responsibilities:

Cargo Flow Planning & Execution

  • Assist in developing short-term and weekly cargo flow plans in coordination with the Trade and Operations teams.
  • Monitor daily cargo bookings and ensure alignment with vessel capacity plans.
  • Support allocation planning and proactively manage overflows, prioritizing high-value and time-sensitive shipments.
  • Coordinate with regional offices to ensure alignment on cargo flow adjustments and last-minute changes

Data Accuracy & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate cargo flow data in internal systems, ensuring real-time visibility for all stakeholders.
  • Track key cargo flow performance metrics and provide regular reports and variance analyses to the Capacity Manager.
  • Identify and escalate any discrepancies or issues in bookings, allocations, or capacity utilization.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Liaise with Commercial, Documentation, Operations, and Transshipment teams to manage cargo flow issues.
  • Communicate booking status, allocation changes, and space availability to relevant internal departments.
  • Assist in managing customer commitments and exceptions in coordination with the Sales and Customer Service teams.

Process Optimization

  • Support the Capacity Manager in identifying process bottlenecks and proposing operational enhancements.
  • Contribute to initiatives focused on improving space utilization, minimizing cargo rollover, and reducing costs.
  • Stay updated on trade patterns, cargo trends, and regional demand fluctuations to support planning accuracy.

Requirements:

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, International Trade, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in cargo planning, shipping operations, or trade support roles.
  • Prior experience in liner shipping or containerized cargo movement is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel and logistics planning tools

Key Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills.
  • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy in documentation and reporting.
  • Excellent coordination and communication abilities across departments.
  • Familiarity with shipping systems (e.g., Cargo Smart, SAP, or internal planning tools).
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment.
