Weight regulations:

Road Regulations

• The weight restrictions on the roads in Tanzania are very strictly adhered to by the Government Agencies to avoid potential damage to the roads.
• Maximum weight allowable 28 Mtons including container weight.
• Dimensions of trucks allowed without permits are as follows.
  -Overall width 2.6M
  -Overall height 4.6M from the road surface
  -Overall Length of the rigid vehicle 12.5M
  -Overall length of articulated vehicle 17.0M
  -Overall length of any combination of vehicle 22.0M

Terminal Limitation

• Terminal Crane Capacity maximum 40 mtons

For Imports

• 8 digits HS code is mandatory on the BL and Manifest
• Consignee’s Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) is mandatory in all the imports manifests.
• “To Order “shipments are allowed for discharge at Dar Es Salaam and Zanzibar but Actual Consignee must be shown on the BL in the consignee field before the import manifest is filed.

For Dar es Salaam discharge: Actual consignee detail located at Dar Es Salaam or within Tanzania (except Zanzibar*) is MANDATORY for manifest

For Zanzibar discharge: Actual consignee details at Zanzibar is mandatory.

• For Through BL shipments, Commercial Invoice and Packing List needs to be provided to the Destination office.
• In Transit clause: “In Transit by Carrier Haulage” is mandatory on manifest for Through BLs
• For Telex Release, the copy of the surrendered OBL needs to be provided to the Destination office.
• Manifest is filed 48 hours prior to vessel arrival at the Port of Discharge.
• Any Amendments will accrue penalty once manifest is filed.
• Any amendment request without charges must be approved 7 days prior to vessel arrival.
• Amendments approved 7 days before vessel arrival at the Port of Discharge will not accrue any penalty

*Transshipment or In Transit Clause to Zanzibar is ABSOLUTELY restricted for shipments discharging at Dar Es Salaam

Free days from vessel berth to empty return:

• Rwanda/Malawi/Burundi/Sudan/Uganda- 30 days
• Zambia- 40 days
• D.R.C. Congo- 55 days
