Senior Manager, Maintenance & Repair – Hong Kong

We are looking for a Senior Manager to join the Container Management team, who will oversee the entire Maintenance and Repair (M&R) cycle for containers, ensuring that all operational processes align with ESL’s quality standards and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:

1. M&R Cycle Management 

Oversee the entire Maintenance and Repair (M&R) cycle for containers, ensuring that all operational processes align with ESL’s quality standards and regulatory requirements. This includes coordinating with external repair service providers and container depots to manage repair schedules, oversee maintenance activities and ensure timely execution of repairs. 

2. Damage Assessment and Quality Control 

Evaluate the severity and characteristics of damages or defects during the repair estimation process to determine the necessity of repairs. Conduct post-repair inspections to verify that containers meet quality standards and comply with relevant regulations before being returned to service. 

3. Vendor Management and Negotiation 

    Liaise with container depots and repair service providers to negotiate contracts and agreements that ensure repairs are carried out to the required standards within agreed timelines. Monitor vendor performance, addressing any issues that arise to maintain high service quality and efficiency during the M&R cycle. 

    4. Cost Control and Expense Management 

      Monitor and control repair and maintenance costs related to container depot operations. Evaluate repair methods, source cost-effective materials, and optimize repair processes to manage expenses effectively while ensuring quality service delivery. 

      5. Continuous Improvement Initiatives 

        Identify opportunities for process improvement within the M&R cycle, implementing new technologies and streamlining workflows to enhance repair quality and efficiency. Regularly review and update maintenance and repair procedures based on lessons learned and industry best practices. 

        6. Vendor Evaluation and Selection 

          Conduct comprehensive evaluations of container depot vendors, considering factors such as locations, facilities, service and product quality, compliance track record, and cost-effectiveness. Make informed decisions on vendor selection to ensure optimal operational outcomes. 

          7. Audit Coordination and Compliance 

            Ensure that depot audits are conducted systematically, based on volume and identified issues, while maintaining a minimum audit frequency of once a year. Collaborate with Vincent to address audit findings and implement corrective actions to enhance operational compliance. 

            8. Reporting and Metrics Management 

              Prepare regular reports on container depot operations, including performance metrics related to repair quality, vendor efficiency, and cost analyses. Present insights to Vincent to inform strategic decision-making and operational planning. 

              9. Training and Development 

                Facilitate training for container depot staff and vendors to ensure adherence to ESL’s service standards and operational policies. Promote a culture of continuous learning and quality awareness within the depot management team.

                Requirements:

                Qualification(s) 

                1. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Supply Chain Management, Logistics). 

                Working Experience(s) 

                1. 5-10 years of experience working for a shipping company in the container management department, candidate with lesser experience will be considered as Manager. 
                2. Proven relevant experience in M&R Cycle Management, container damage assessment and quality control within the shipping industry. 
                3. Experience with contract negotiation, interpretation and management. 
                4. Strong knowledge of procurement processes, best practices and industry regulations.  
                5. Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, preferably experience with our internal system or similar systems.
