Cargo Restrictions
The following merchandise is either prohibited or regulated and may not be brought into Mexico:
- Narcotics.
- Live predatory fish of any size.
- Images of any kind that depict children in a degrading or ridiculous manner, or that incite violence or destruction.
- Used clothing and footwear that are not part of your personal luggage.
- Firearms and ammunition.
- Electronic cigarettes, personal vaporizing devices, electronic devices that use heated tobacco, and electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS), Similar Systems Without Nicotine (SSWN), and Alternative Nicotine Consumption Systems (ANCS), and similar.
In the case of medical devices and health care products, there are additional requirements.
- The products must comply with applicable standards.
- Foreign manufactured products need to have a legally appointed representative/distributor in Mexico.
- Products must be registered with the Secretariat of Health (Secretaría de Salud or SSA) prior to being sold in Mexico.
- Except for blood, blood derivative products, and organs, almost all medical products can be imported into Mexico, provided they comply with existing regulations.
Weight Regulations
- 1 Axle: Less than 25 tons (including tare).
- 2 Axles: Less than 50 tons (including tare).
- Rail: 29,483 kgs for 40′ containers (including tare).
- Rail: 24,000 kgs for 20′ containers (including tare).
